Burbage is a suburb of the larger urban area of Hinckley and is part of Hinckley and Bosworth borough. The population currently stands at about 14,324.
During the English Civil War the village's proximity to Hinckley drew it to the attention of raiding parties from the local parliamentary garrisons in north Warwickshire.
Burbage was also the birthplace, in 1608, of John Cooke. Cooke went on to become Solicitor-General of the Commonwealth of England and lead the prosecution of King Charles I for High Treason, resulting in Charles' execution and, ultimately, his own.
Major Road Links
Burbage is less than a mile from the M69 (which links that M6 to the M1) and the A5. It also has very easy access to the local towns and cities.
Burbage Surgery is a group practice with premises situated in Tilton Road. It is purpose built with ample parking space, suitable access for wheelchairs and WC facilities for the disabled. Facilities include a visiting physiotherapist, district nurses, health visitors, counsellor and a dispensary.
Burbage has two infant schools,the 1st Britannia Scout Group (which includes Beaver Scout, Cub Scout, Scout and Explorer Scout sections) on Britannia Fields, two junior schools and a secondary school.
The nearest secondary school is Hinckley but the village is also in the catchment for Lutterworth College, which is heralded for having outstanding achievements.
The village has its own small library with Burbage common and woods country park both run by the borough council.
Burbage has a variety of Pubs, Restaurants and small independent retail businesses.
Culture and Events
There is a farmers market every first Saturday of the month running 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. A yearly summer street carnival and fete is organised by the Burbage carnival committee, whose purpose is to raise funds to donate to local good causes.
Burbage has an array of sporting clubs, including Burbage & Easton Royal cricket club, tennis and squash club, bowling, FC Burbage, RFC Burbage with the Leicester Tigers grounds within easy access from the village. Hinckley and Lutterworth Golf clubs are also nearby.
