Duston is situated approximately 4 miles from Northampton town centre with good road links to the M1 junction 16 approximately 4 miles away and rail links from Northampton to Euston from Castle Station approximately 3 miles distant. Duston boasts a full range of shopping facilities including supermarkets at Sixfields and local school facilities within walking distance. The area also includes a cinema and football stadium, as well as many restaurants and pubs.
Historical evidence suggests that there have been settlements at Duston and Upton since the Stone Age. There was a large Roman settlement at Duston, and it was probably the main centre of habitation in the area until Anglo-Saxon times (fifth to eighth centuries AD), when Northampton started to emerge as the centre.
Duston was also a centre for the Vikings or Danes, but passed back into Anglo-Saxon possession before being transferred into Norman hands as the manor of ‘Dustone’ after the Norman Conquest. The meaning of Dustone, given in the Oxford Dictionary of English Place-Names is 'farmstead on a mound', or 'farmstead with dusty soil'. Upton was recorded in the Domesday Book as ‘Optone’ at this time.
ST LUKE'S CEVA PRIMARY SCHOOL
ST. CRISPIN DRIVE
A Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School for 4-11 year olds based on the St Crispin development in Duston.
St Luke's school has served the village since 1856, being the oldest school in Duston. However, from February 2008, we relocated to our new site. This does not stop our close relationship with Duston or St Luke's Church as we are still the Church school and a vital part of the local community.
The children at St Luke's reflect the ethos of our school. They are happy, secure and well cared for - enabling them to flourish. They progress and take every opportunity given to them. They are polite, respectful and well mannered.
Our website is designed to give you an interesting, informative and enjoyable tour around our school. Along the way we will celebrate all our childrens and staffs talents and achievements. We hope you enjoy your journey around our school. As you browse around our website you will also find details of school events, visitors and activities that serve to enliven the curriculum, alongside information about our after school clubs and extra curricular activities that your children can participate in.
